The alarm clock „Neyla“
has meanwhile been adjusted to 7.30 am and unlike the commercial alarm clocks,
you can’t switch her off... we still prefer the cute version with the very
penetrating voice... After a short hand-wash of our car (the sponge had the
size of a stamp) we could dare to go on the road again... We repeated the
breakfast procedure from yesterday in the Chai Tea House with waffles,
cappuccino and writing blog, as we had made positive experience there already.
From there we drove to Whangapoua via Te Rerenga. The beach there is really
beautiful, but for us it presented only the initial point to another exiting
hiking tour which was recommended in a guide as one of the 100 things a Kiwi
must do in his life. Our target location was “New Chums Beach” . So we started
our tour with 2 rucksacks, sturdy shoes, a ball, a swim ring in the shape of a turtle,
the mandatory watering can for Neyla and various goodies. After a short passage
along the beach and an exciting crossing of a waterway, the rocky track of our
hiking tour began. As the high tide had reached almost its top, we were forced
to cross a long distance over rocks. With all our described baggage and each
with one child on its shoulder it became sometimes a real balancing act. After
about 20 minutes we got to a path that took us through the “jungle”. A real
dream region for Janis who immediately got in the lead and guide us all safely
through the rootage of the forest. Sometimes we really had the impression to
travel back in time when the sailors discovered land... we only lack of a machete.
We are not going to comment the beach we reached at the end of our tour... just
one thing: you MUST see this! This place is heaven on earth! The fact that we
only made our way back at 6.15 pm explains everything. Another MUST is the
coast road in direction Themes. It takes you directly along the “Firth of
Thames”. In combination with the sunset a perfect daily closing. We stopped then
at the camping site of Te Puru.
