Weltreise 2014: Gipfel Mount Mananganui - Ankunft Coromandel Halbinsel / Summit Mount Mananganui - Arrival at the Coromandel peninsula 20th of February 2014

“The Kiwis are back” – nach einem Tag des Verschnaufens und lediglich einem Kurzbericht mit ein paar Bildern könnt Ihr heute wieder auf einen ausführlichen Bericht zählen. Spätestens nach den Eggs Benedict und dem double chocolate muffin von Janis in einem tollen Coffee Shop war klar, dass wir Mount Mananganui nicht ohne die Besteigung des gleichnamigen Berges verlassen können. Leider fanden wir nach dem Check-out aus dem Campingplatz nur in rund 2 km Entfernung einen Parkplatz, von dem wir unseren Aufstieg starten konnten. (zur Zeit finden im Ort die neuseeländischen Meisterschaften der U14 Rettungsschwimmer statt). So hatten wir bis ins Basislager des Berges schon das notwendige Aufwärmprogramm zurückgelegt. Die Sonne tat ihr übriges hinzu. Wir hatten heute genau 3 Stunden Sonnenschein und dies genau in der Zeit unserer Bergtour mit jeweils einem Kind auf der Schulter. „Der Berg“ , wie er umgangssprachlich genannt wird, ist zwar nur 231 m hoch, dennoch waren wir froh, dass wir auf einen Getränkevorrat von 1.5 Litern zurückgreifen konnten. Neyla absolvierte die grossen Treppen mit schon gewohnter Leichtigkeit und Janis zeichnete sich wieder als gopro-Kameramann aus (auf der Schulter sitzend liess er uns von Zeit zu Zeit wissen wie anstrengend eine solche Wanderung doch ist). Wie immer entschädigte der 360 Grad Bick vom Gipfel für alle Entbehrungen und es ist traumhaft mit anzusehen, wie unglaublich glücklich und ausgeglichen die Kinder jeweils nach einer solchen Tour sind. Beim Herunterlaufen sprangen und rutschten Neyla und Janis wieder derart übermotiviert den Hang hinunter, dass wir zwischenzeitlich das Gefühl hatten, dass unsere Arme abfallen. Der Milchshake zum Schluss war die verdiente Belohnung einer tollen Leistung (von allen 4). Auf der anschliessenden Fahrt in Richtung Coromandel Halbinsel begann es erst leicht und dann doch sehr stark zu regnen. (zum Glück für die Frontscheibe, die von Mücken gepflastert war). Den notwendigen Zwischenstopp an einer Dumping Station (öffentliche Stelle, an der man das Abwasser entsorgen kann) nutzten wir trotz dem Regens zu einem Besuch der Waihi Beach. Man kann es einfach nur mit folgenden Worten umschreiben: Leider geil. Wie viele Strände haben wir jetzt schon auf unserer Reise gesehen und jedes Mal sind wir wieder aufs Neue begeistert. Da die Wetterprognose auch für morgen Regen voraussagt entschlossen wir uns bis Pauanui Beach durchzufahren. Nach einem fantastischen Abendessen im Ort und einer Runde Spielplatz (lange nicht gehabtJ) freuen wir uns jetzt auf die Federn und tolle Tage auf der Coromandel Halbinsel.

The „Kiwis“ are back – after a short break you can now look forward to more detailed information and pictures again. After our egg Benedict and a double chocolate muffin for Janis in a great coffee shop right next door, it was pretty clear that we could not leave this place without climbing up to the top of the Mount Mananganui. Unfortunately we could not leave the mobile home on the site and we only found the next parking slot about 2 km up the road (there are life-guard-championships going on right now, which makes the place pretty crowded). Like this, we had completed our warming up already by the time we reached the base of the mountain. And the sun did its best to support this. We had bright sunshine for 3 hours today, and these 3 hours where exactly during our hiking tour, where each of us had a child on its shoulder... “The Mountain” as it is called, is only 231 m high but we were happy when we had reached the top and that we had taken enough to drink with us. Neyla climbed up the high steps of the staircase with an impressing easiness and Janis was again our professional Gopro-cameraman, sitting on Dad Dad’s shoulder, and he made sure we understand how exhausting this tour was for him... As usual the view on top of the hill compensated all the effort and it’s also amazing to see how happy and balanced kids can be after such a tour. On the way back they had so much fun jumping and sliding but this caused an additional loading for us and at the end we both could not feel our arms anymore... The milkshake we got at the base was the deserved reward for all of us. On the way to the Coromandel peninsula it started drizzling which turned quickly into heavy rain. (Good for the front window which was strewn with mosquitoes.) We stopped at the next dumping station (that’s a public place where you can get rid of your sewage water) and took the chance to go to the Waihi Beach. We must say: unfortunately awesome as well, despite the rain.... we don’t know how many beaches we have seen so far, but we still get all excited by their beauty. As the weather forecast does not look that great for the next days, we decided to run non-stop until Pauanui Beach. After a fantastic dinner and after spending some time on the playground (which we haven’t had for a long time J) we are now looking forward to a good night’s sleep and we are looking forward to the next days on the Coromandel peninsula.
